Choi Soon Hwa, an 80-year-old woman, captivated audiences at the Miss Universe Korea pageant, becoming the oldest contestant in the competition’s history.
Despite not winning the crown, Choi Soon Hwa made a lasting impression by securing the Best Dressed Award during the coronation night in Seoul, an impressive achievement at any age.

Competing against 31 candidates, Choi stood out in a white lace and tulle gown and also impressed by performing in the pageant’s singing contest.

The crown went to 22-year-old fashion student Han Ariel, who will represent South Korea at the Miss Universe pageant in Mexico this November.

Choi’s journey to the pageant stage is nothing short of inspiring. A former hospital worker, she turned to modeling in her 70s, quickly establishing herself in South Korea’s fashion industry.
Her modeling career includes walking the runway at Seoul Fashion Week, proving that age is no obstacle to pursuing one’s dreams.
Reflecting on her experience in the pageant, Choi expressed pride and gratitude. “Just being able to participate is an amazing and honorable experience,” she told the BBC.
She was warmly embraced by her fellow contestants, who admired her for defying age norms. “They were surprised when they learned I was 80 and told me they want to age like me.”
Her grandchildren, in their early 20s, were also a source of support. “They cheer me on, saying, ‘Our grandma is so cool and beautiful!’” Choi shared.
